Fall 2023 Grant Awards

Just over $41,000 in teacher/staff initiated grants were approved at the December 6th meeting of the  Bexley Education Foundation’s Board of Governors. The grants support our school district’s strategic goals and the foundation’s commitment to providing every Bexley student with opportunities and experiences that help them grow and flourish. Grants funded include:

A $17,556 grant to purchase five classroom sets of virtual reality goggles to be shared at the elementary schools across the school district (one set for each elementary and one “floating” set). Elementary students will have the chance to “travel” across the world – boosting their sense of wonder and curiosity, creating excitement and deepening engagement in learning.

$4,500 to create indoor and outdoor “sensory paths” to help Montrose students release their excess energies in a positive manner, increase cognitive functioning and develop gross motor skills. Students follow the colorful decals (inside) or stenciled paths (outdoors) and complete a series of guided actions and movements based on one or more themes.

$4,470 grant to purchase 150 STEM bins for all K-5 elementary classrooms. The bins will be filled with activities like building blocks, stacking cups, magnetic tiles and other activities to help elementary students ease into the school day and warm up their minds.

A $5,000 grant to commission a special song to be written in memory of beloved Maryland Elementary music teacher Jackie Batteiger. The song will be written by a composer with input from students and staff and hopefully debut at student concerts to be performed in spring 2024.

$3,257 grant to purchase TacScreen covers for the iPads used by all Kindergarten and first grade students. The TacScreens will allow students to practice letter formation and support the development of fluent and automatic handwriting.

$2,735 to create dedicated language recording spaces for middle school World Language students to record and practice the language they are learning. The spaces will provide quiet places free of distractions and help to address the anxiety and discomfort of language learners speaking in front of and around others.

None of these grants would be possible without the support provided by foundation donors. Please consider making a year-end gift of any amount. There are many benefits and tax incentives for charitable giving at year-end. Individuals may deduct qualified contributions of up to 100% of their adjusted gross income.  Gifts for calendar year 2023, including recurring gifts, can be made online up until midnight on December 31 or sent by mail, but they must be postmarked by December 31, 2023.
