REMEMBERING THE COACH

We continue to mourn the loss of Bexley’s legendary coach, teacher and mentor Gene Millard who passed away at the age of 90 on April 15th. Gene was a captain and an MVP of the men’s basketball team at Ohio State and had a decades-long career in education and athletics at Bexley High School where he led the 1983 boys basketball team to a state championship. Gene, along with his wife, Sally, were devoted to their family and all of the Bexley students, parents, athletes, teachers and coaches whom they connected with over the years.

Gene and Sally established the Bexley High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989 in memory of their daughter Becky. The first class of outstanding former athletes was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1990 and the next induction event will be held this fall.

Thanks to Gene and Sally’s financial commitment, and gifts made by many individuals, the Millard Family Athletic Hall of Fame Fund has been established with the Bexley Education Foundation. The Fund ensures that the Athletic Hall of Fame will continue to honor future generations of Bexley athletes.

Gifts in Gene or Sally’s memory can be made to the Bexley Education Foundation by going online to https://www.bexleyeducationfoundation.org/donate, 348 S. Cassingham Rd., Bexley OH 43209. All gifts will be directed to the Millard Family Athletic Hall of Fame Fund at the Foundation.
