Spring Foundation Grants
The grants approved by the Bexley Education Foundation Board on May 8 will have a major impact on Bexley students across the School District.
Expansion of Allied Arts Courses
All Bexley Middle School students will benefit from a $30,000 grant to support the expansion of Allied Arts courses. Starting this the Middle School will offer 12 new Allied Arts courses ranging from Video Game Production to Outdoor Adventures to Fashion Design. The courses align with student interests and a variety of career pathways. They provide the opportunity for students to have more choices within the curriculum.
Gifted Credentialing for Teachers
A $60,000 grant ($30,000 per year for the next two years) will provide the School District with the opportunity to offer all elementary teachers to be credentialed by the State of Ohio in Gifted Instruction. Within our School District 45% of students have been identified as Gifted. The grant will allow the training to begin this summer. Having all elementary teachers trained in Gifted instruction not only benefits students identified as gifted learners but enhances the learning environment for all elementary students.
A $12,000 grant from the Foundation’s R.L. Stine Creative Writing Endowment will fund the visit of writer and children’s book author, Kelly Starling Lyons next school year. Lyons writes fiction and nonfiction picture books, early chapter books and biography chapter books that focus on friendship, family traditions and heritage. Known for her grade-level tailored interactive presentations, Lyons will visit with all grade level students at all three elementary schools over the course of three days.
A $1,133 grant from the Barbara and David Brandt Family Read for Life Endowment will enhance the Wit & Wisdom ELA curriculum for Kindergarten students starting this fall. The grant will provide for the purchase of updated “Then and Now” books on the topics of clothing, cooking, cooking, communication, homes, toys, transportation and technology.
These grants are only possible because of generous donor support. If you appreciate the kind of opportunities that the Foundation can provide to Bexley students and staff, please consider making a contribution prior to June 30 at https://www.bexleyeducationfoundation.org/donate
